The Washingtonia Fan Palm (Washingtonia Filifera), also known as the desert fan palm, is a massive, heavy-bodied tree instantly recognizable by its exceptionally thick, stout trunk and a massive, dense petticoat of gray-brown thatch that blankets the trunk down to the ground. As the only palm tree native to the western United States, this single-stemmed giant features a rugged, imposing structure that creates a commanding architectural presence in desert landscapes and grand driveways.
